Instructor Profiles

Tanya Anthony 
Tanya is passionate about learning. With a B.Ed in elementary from the University of Alberta, she tutors kids with learning disabilities and teaches grade 5-12 Spanish and beginner adult Spanish classes. Cooking and baking is one of her personal hobbies which she enjoys sharing through teaching others.

Lisa Bader 
Lisa has been a hairstylist for 25 years. She has worked in many salons and owned a home based business. She has also worked in schools for the last 10 years, 5 of which are at Salisbury Composite High School in the Cosmetology department.

Suzanne Belanger, RMT
Following a 26 year career in Cardiac Intensive Care, Suzanne re-focused on assisting people using a holistic, collaborative approach. In 2008 she graduated with honors from a 2 year, 2200 hour therapeutic massage program. As a life-long learner, she's added these related modalities and skills: Reiki, Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Access Bars, Applied Kinesiology, Mind-Body Energy Balancing, Acupressure, Trigger Point Release, Facial Reflexology and Essential Oils, practicum supervisor and teaching assistant and has operated her own clinic since 2009.

Carmen Braga
Carmen is a certified Life/Soul Coach and Personal Growth Specialist. Carmen has overcome many personal struggles in life which turned into opportunities to help others who are going through much the same. It is her unique abilities to see through the façade of the ego and into the light of the soul that has led her to finding her passion for helping others out of the darkness and into the light.

Hazel Butterworth 
Hazel is a certified Reiki Master, Colour Sound Therapist, Teacher and Energetically Thinking Coach. Hazel has a passion for sharing her knowledge and understanding through teaching. She feels strongly that every home should have Reiki and that all businesses can benefit from incorporating Reiki, Colour Sound, The Energy Bubble and Energetically Thinking into their employee wellness programs.

Teresa Castro-Albarracin 
Teresa graduated as a teacher in her native Peru, where she taught for some years before coming to Canada. Teresa has been teaching Spanish for Next Step Continuing Education and the U of A Faculty of Extension since 1999. Her goal as an instructor is not only to teach the language, but also to share her knowledge of the culture. She has taken several adult education courses at the U of A and she has attended many other conferences and workshops to keep current with language instruction.

Imelda Dykstra 
Imelda, who comes from Central Mexico, has been teaching conversational Spanish for over 15 years. As a member of the Edmonton Hispanic Bilingual Association, she teaches an advanced level of Spanish to adults who want to be immersed in Spanish culture. In addition to working with home-schooled students as well as the business community, Imelda is also an experienced Spanish translator.

Larry Fowler 
Larry has been a professional photographer for over 40 years. He holds the Certified Professional Photographer designation from the Professional Photographers of America. Larry enjoys sharing his knowledge with anyone willing to explore the wonderful world of photography.

Rhonda Fox-Miles, CIRP, RSW 
Rhonda obtained her diploma in Social Work and General Arts & Science in 1992 from Grant MacEwan Community College and is a Registered Social Worker. Since 1999 she has been a Licensed Trustee in bankruptcy operating in Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut and is the Owner/Operator of Fox-Miles & Associates Inc. where she has a broad range of insolvency experience with an emphasis in personal bankruptcies.

Ken Hicks
Ken was living his average life. He grew up a sports enthusiast, married his high school sweetheart, became a father of two lovely daughters, and worked in retail sales for most of his life. Then, at age 46, he received his first cancer scare and decided it was time to work on his Bucket List which included, "Try Stand Up Comedy". Six years and over 1100 shows later, Ken is thankful to have found his passion, and urges us all to find the funny in life.

Laura Kluthe
Laura is a Certified Professional Organizer and member of the Professional Organizers in Canada. Her favourite organizing task is decluttering because it has an immediate de-stressing effect on clients and their families. Her motto is to live life simply. Her biggest organizing challenge in life was moving her young family of 4 into one of two bedrooms in her sister's 800 square foot home (with no basement) for 18 months while building a new home and leaving with her sister relationship intact. That's when she knew she could organize anything!

Ryan Layton  
Ryan is currently a French immersion principal with EIPS. He has received a Master Degree in Educational Technology and has presented all over Alberta about the utilization of technology in the classroom. He is currently the President of the Educational Technology Council of the Alberta Teachers’ Association and a former Apple genius.

Steve Lauder, CPGA
Steve has worked in many facets of the golf industry throughout his career. From working in pro shops, golf course maintenance, to sales representative, and finally turning professional, Steve has over 17 seasons sharing his golf expertise in the Sherwood Park area.

Emma Mastsumoto
Emma teaches both kids and adult Japanese cooking classes. She also teaches Japanese language courses for kids and adults as well as provides tutoring. Emma participates in varous annual Japanese community events such as Sukiyaki Night, Japanese New Year and teaches calligraphy. She enjoys pottery when not sharing her Japanese culture with others.

Jordan Motz  
Jordan started ballroom dancing over 12 years ago when he was 18 while attending the University of Alberta. After several years of dancing socially, he began taking private
lessons and entered the competitive dancing world for 4 years, reaching the
silver level of the international ballroom curriculum.  Since then, he has
continued to enjoy dancing with his wife and teaching church groups, engaged
couples, and anyone else willing to learn.

Christina Nykyforuk, MScOT
Christina is a Registered Occupational Therapist who holds a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Alberta. She is currently employed with Elk Island Public Schools while also providing services and consultation through her private practice. Christina has worked with clients from pediatrics to geriatrics and enjoys finding creative strategies to help all of her clients increase their independence and meet their goals.

Milane Pridmore-Franz 
Milane has worked at the University of Alberta as a French Teaching Assistant, as well as a French Principal Instructor at the beginner and intermediate levels. She teaches using the principles of Communicative Language Teaching, placing emphasis on making use of real-life (and culturally-specific) situations that necessitate communication so that learners develop communicative competence. Milane is an Associate Member (FR-EN) of the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta. She is also responsible for the creation and projection of English surtitles for plays at Edmonton’s Francophone theatre, L’UniThéâtre and is completing a M.A. degree in Translation Studies at the University of Alberta.

Ryan Song, R.Ac. & Danny Au, R.Ac. 
Ryan and Danny practice Oriental Medicine at AcupunctureLife, Edmonton. With 15+ years of combined experiences in Oriental Medicine, they specialize in pain medicine and internal medicine. Practicing natural and no side effect medicine, they focus on designing personalized treatment plans and solutions for each patient in order to achieve the best treatment results. Many of their patients experience improved quality of life in days or months on after starting their treatment programs. They are very proud of what they can offer you and are thrilled to meet you and your friends to introduce it to you.

Sandy Spates
Sandy was born and raised in the US with parents that grew up in the southern states - fuelling her love of cooking. She has been the Chef at Ardrossan Jr/Sr High for the last 18 years.

Joanne Swensrude
Joanne is a Microsoft Office Specialist and has been teaching people how to use their computers since 1988. She has a passion for showing people how to shave hours of time off their daily tasks. 

Willie Wong
Willie was born in Malaysian Borneo and immigrated to Canada in 1978. He studied traditional Chinese painting in South East Asia and southern China before attending Alberta College and the University of Alberta. Willie has been teaching in Edmonton and around Alberta for the last 27 years; primarily for Devonian Botanical Garden and Artist in Residence for various schools. His works are collected by the University of Alberta, Royal Bank, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Lois Hole Womens' Hospital and the National Art Bank in Ottawa. He is also a co-owner of Kamena Gallery & Frames in Edmonton.
